Cardinal-designate Tim Dolan of NYC – who gets his red hat tomorrow – will receive another, admittedly-lesser distinction in May – an honorary degree from Manhattan College. Meanwhile, a Minnesota attorney who has represented more clergy sex abuse victims than any other lawyer in the US, Jeff Andreson, says he plans to depose Dolan in a case involving some 200 youngsters who say they were molested by Fr. Lawrence Murphy at St. John’s School for the Deaf in Milwaukee between 1950 and 1974.

I’m not certain Dolan was alive in in 1950 when the abuse is alleged to have started. But if there’s money to be had, depose away. It should be a SNAP to win millions. Is the alleged molester still alive? If so, off with his collar and then go a little lower.

Allowing someone to bring charges for something that happened 62 yrs. ago is the most ridiculous thing imaginable. This is nothing more than an attempt at extortion. Hopefully the judge will have sense enough to dismiss the suit as frivilous snd without merit. This is as ludricrous as paying descendents of slave reparations for something that happened two hundred years ago!
The last thing any bishop ever wants is to be deposed to sit on that witness stand and dare to tell the truth.
There is way more to this than money, it is about exposing the truth, holding those responsible accountable, and therefore protecting kids today. The victims are sick and tired of not being believed.
If the truth is not exposed, this horrific abuse will never get stopped, and life within a corrupt church system will go on as usual.
Innocent children deserve much better.

Kitty–How would you feel if it were your child who was molested? It wouldn’t matter how long ago it happened, I think you would still want the perpetrated held accountable. Think before you write, you brainwashed Catholic.
If it’s not about the money then insist the attorney renounce any claim for monetary damages and simply depose Cardinal Dolan. When pigs fly! It’s always about money and nothing else.

Snap was completely vindicated (I always believed trusted their motives) with the vatican’s sex abuse summit admitting in the United States alone, there are over 100,000 kids debased. No one in a “right mind” can doubt Snap’s intentions again
