Huffington Pollster: Average of recent national polls puts Donald Trump’s favorability at only 31 percent, while 63 percent viewed him unfavorably. . . BOOKMARK: “You Belong to the Universe: Buckminister Fuller,” penned by Jonathan Keats. Keats writes about the visionary whose geodesic domes were introduced. While I toiled at the Muny, the board beckoned Fuller with a view towards creating a dome over the outdoor theater that would preclude rainouts. Furthermore, the venue could present plays, musicals and concerts all year-long. The plan was scotched by the stodgy board due to costs. . .There goes Mark Erney on the town. The former lead to creating a franchise of Hamburger Mary’s pled guilty of embezzling his investors – including Frank Siano – of a few hundred thousand bucks for his personal use. The judge gave Erney probation and ordered restitution.

  • Buttinsky says:

Fuller was a professor at what local university in the 60’s and 70’s? Answer later.

  • Towncar07 says:

Richard Buckminster Fuller was an associate prof at SIUE…I think he designed the dome on campus for the Center for Religious Studies…

  • dlimbo says:

He also once proposed a geodesic dome over East St. Louis

  • Buttinsky says:

    Town car is a winner.

  • Towncar07 says:

While I appreciate being a winner, I especially like dlimbo’s answer.

Back in the 50’s & 60’s ESTL was not a bad place to visit…the influence of Frank “Buster” Wortman held a big velvet hammer over the goings-on in that town…From his BlueNote Club all the way up to Belleville his word was the word. How else could a small group of white teens go from place to place and everyone got along, because we were all there for the late bar hours, no carding unless you were dead, pretty good food at various places, and the music was rockin’.

I was employed by Procter & Gamble at the time when MLK,Jr was shot, and working a National Store reset when the mobs came out in force…from then on, the place was different, the trust and coexistence failed, and it was from then on a downward spiral into a deep hole…I have not been in ESTL since 1973, except to pass thru. The town still exists, but without me or anyone I know.
