J.C. CORCORAN LEAVING OUR TOWN FOR HOUSTON

Beginning March 21, J.C . Corcoran will host the new morning show on Houston’s 93.7 The Arrow KKRW classic rock station.  He will host weekday mornings 5:30-10 a.m.  Also, Corcoran will be a contributor to Clear Channel’s Media & Entertainment Houston’s talk stations KTRH and KPRC.  He has spent the last 29 years in our town at stations KSHE, KSD, KHIT and KMOX.  He also served as an entertainment editor and commentator at NBC, CBS and Fox television stations.  Previously, he did stops at DC101 in the Beltway, 97Rock in Buffalo, N.Y. and The Loop in Chicago.  “People started trying to run me out of town two weeks after I got here, so I consider it a moral victory that it took 29 years to do it,” wrote Corcoran.  Through the years, Corcoran raised money for scores of charities.  He will continue to perform swing duty on WGN Radio in his hometown of Chicago.

Earth to Corcoran – MORAL victory? Really?

BYE BYE. Whatever stations you were on I will give another try now.

  • Doug Travis:

THIS SHOULD BE LISTED UNDER CIVIC IMPROVEMENTS!!!

  • Will Roth:

Good riddance, Corcoran was a total jerk.

  • KITTY:

Good riddance to the most obnoxious gas bag ever on radio. St. Louis has suffered enough putting up with his third grade rants everytime he got fired and fired and fired again and again. Five will get you ten he will piss off every person in Houston within six months. Then buyers remorse will set in for the station owner stupid enough to hire him. How sweet it is.

If being angry most of the time and telling off listeners whenever he feels like he’s entitled to do so…yes, thats qualification’s to go to Houston…They WILL REGRET IT! JC is the only one that thinks he’s worth a shit! In the early to mid 90′s, Gus Brewer was an outstanding air personality at Q 106.5…but was also a fine human being on and off the air! Can’t say that about Hot Air Bag Corcoran. good to read Doug Travis on here…we go way back to my days at KADI-fm

  • There’s only one reason J. C. was able to last 29 years on St. Louis radio: He had a loyal following. Every station that fired him, another was only too happy to pick him up and acquire those listeners. To spend 29 years in one market is astounding, especially in deregulated broadcast radio. Like anyone who takes strong positions, he has plenty of local enemies — he also has plenty of very popular media friends who were only too glad to share his show as guests and cohosts —, but radio personalities, even the most popular ones in each market, know that even in their best ratings periods they’re only attracting about 3 to 5% of the radio listening market.

To St. Louis people who still think “Ron Morgan and Crunch” was cutting-edge humor, or WIL’s “Hiney Winery” was just the hyuk-hyuk-hyuk of all time, J. C. will always be a lightning rod for their hatred. He did fine without them for 29 years in St. Louis, and I wish him well in Houston. I wish I could hear his show once he gets situated there.

I rarely agreed with JC on political issues. I think had he stuck with entertainment, music and simply tweaking the powers that be, he would still be here. However, when you jump on things like religion and abortion, you are limiting your audience, especially in a heavily Catholic market like this. I’m not sure how much he really believed (since he sent his girls to a Catholic school), or how much was just for shock value? I would listen, then get insulted and leave. Then turn it back on until the cycle repeated itself. I also wish him good luck. Jean, thanks for reminding me of the old Kevin Kitchens “Hiney” routine. He was a funny guy who I knew well and who died way too soon in Florida after leaving here. By the way, you can listen to JC on “I heart radio.” Just look for his station under “search station.”

As they say, don’t let the door hit ‘ya where the good Lord split ‘ya … the best thing about burning bridges is breaking the connection to a crazy. Sorry Houston, you should have done your research first.
