The born-again city of Maplewood is adding two more businesses to its ever-growing retail tenants off the Manchester main drag.  They are Traveling Tea at 2707 Sutton Ave. and Strange Donuts, 2709 Sutton Ave. . .Walt Disney, Viacom and CBS are among 278 companies that have joined an amici curiae (friend of the court) brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).  The brief urges that DOMA “impairs employer/employee relationships”. . .Cheers for SLU’s Bills as the team ranked among the Top 25 as #18 in the Associated Press rankings and #19 in the USA Today coaches poll. . .The 48th Academy of Country Music Awards singled out WIL 92.3′s “The Cornbread Morning Show” for “on-air personality of the year” in the major market category. . .Another note on the death of Ross Gentile and this one from fellow-broadcaster J.C. Corcoran:  “When I got married for the first time, we had just moved into a sprawling home on nearly an acre, and I mentioned on the air that we were having a bunch of relatives from out of town for a large gathering.  Near the end of the show, I pointed out that the recent rain had dumped a foot of leaves onto the property, and I had to go home to use my dinky, little leaf blower.  Well, when I got home, I found Ross directing some guy with one of those huge leaf-blowers cleaning the whole place up.”
