Mentioning Tom Convey of KWK, I was good friends with his nephew, who [was] in the executive Medical branch of Vanderbilt Hospital…When a novice at KSLU the on-campus station at SLUniversity, the staff arranged an interview with Ed Wilson, then the big voice on KWK…what was thought to be a puff interview of inside the station, instead turned into a diatribe by Mr. Wilson on the much too permissive social mores of the day, and it just escalated to a shouting match and Mr. Wilson, being of considerable weight, broke the back of the chair he was sitting in, and in the quiet moment that followed I mentioned that I knew the station owners, and did this reflect their views as well…there was a stunned silence and the last word was from Wilson as he said he wanted a lively “debate” and then got up and left. When that particular semester was over, I transferred to Wash U…and went on from there.

I think we should add Jerry Berger. He’s been the man about town for as long as I can remember.

  • Wally Ballew:

Although I probably disagree with the Bergermeister on just about everything, he deserves to be added because no one in St. Louis has ever been as good as he was (is) at the gossip trade. I worked for the same paper as Kupcinet in Chicago and Jerry may very well be as good as he was. Different in style so it;s tough to compare the two.

  • KITTY:

You know have them by the cojones Bergermeister when people like Wally Blablew, who don’t like what you say, read you everyday. You should have been enshrined in the Media Hall of Fame Foundation the day they opened! You are far and above most of the people you mention in this article! And hurry up and write your book!!

  • Towncar07:

I always especially liked “Person So and So and Female person So and So are receiving separate mail…” Kind of a subtle tip off that the Family Court attorneys are rubbing their wallets, and salivating.
