MERCY MED CENTER DOC IN HOT WATER
Should a Mercy Med Center doctor be fired for her Facebook rant about a patient? Well, Dr. Amy Dunbar, an OB/GYN is in hot water after posting this rant about a patient on her Facebook page: “So I have a patient who has chosen to either no-show or be late (sometimes for all of her prenatal visits, ultra sounds and NST’s.) She is now three hours late for her induction. May I show up for delivery?” Many have called for Dr. Dunbar’s dismissal. Mercy Med Center’s response, according to Greta Van Susteren’s post: “Her comments were definitely inappropriate. We are also reviewing them if she violated privacy issues, etc.”

Sounds like the guy I just saw for a 9:15 appt who finally brought me into the exam room at 10:30, then I sat there for another 30 minutes with nothing to do. Finally got out of there at 11:15 for a 9:15 appt to get some shots.
Works both ways. You’d think at 9:15 there wouldn’t be any huge backups, wouldn’t you?
Since no names or personal details were used, I don’t know what the big deal is. The doctor is a person and has as much right to vent her feelings as anyone else.
Fortunately, I have no problem with my Internist…of course he has gone “concierge” …which is supposed to mean that I can see him “same day” as need, or appointments wait no longer than 5 min. The Doctor mentioned is probably one of the overbooked, overworked, small reimbursement from the insurance company…and had finally reached her point of boiling over. This is only a small incident that portends quite a future that the medical community faces. We can thank, all at once now…let’s give it up for our “fearless leaders and President of shadow rhetoric” for introducing a medical plan we will die for.
I have also moved to the concierge relationship with my internist, as has my wife. It is the start of the two tier system that will be necessitated by ObamaCare. We are trying to pump 10 pounds of crap into a five pound bag. We cannot add-in 40 million new patients without increasing the number of doctors. Both of our doctors said they could no longer operate their practices under the current system and both said the system coming next year will be even worse. I did business in England for many years and that is what they have there. The only reason their NHS system works, even badly, is 40% of the country pay for private care. There are private hospitals, clinics, etc. I think you will see entrepreneurs moving into that space in the next few years. Canada tried for a while to outlaw this type of system, but it didn’t work. I try to cut doctors some slack on appointments, however, I agree they should be more communicative if they know they are going to be late. Same goes for patients.
If you can’t afford to wait some time to see Dr. maybe you ain’t in much need of a doctor anyway. Many years ago I had serious eye injury from sand/rock drilling explosion. Local Dr. at Kemmerer, Wyo patched me up and sent me to Salt Lake City to see a specialist. Upon arriving in Salt Lake City at Dr Palmers office I was taken in immediately. He worked probably an hour on me and said if I had been an hour later I would probably have lost my sight or would have been involved in prolonged surgery, outcome unpredictable. I suppose the patients that I preempted may have been upset.
I know one thing for sure. Accidents can happen at ANY time. (Morning-noon-or night) It amazes me to read all the comments about how our medical care is going down the drain (due to Obama). So many have an iron clad solution. Where have you all been the past 40 years??
While I am happy that your sight remains intact, and agree that accidents do happen, 40 years ago MY doctor made HOUSE calls. We’re not in Kansas, and Obamacare is going to be the new “normal”…we’ll see how that works out…especially in light of the fact that there have been more than 2000 EXEMPTIONS given by His GreatPresence, and the fact that the framers of this Care Mandate do not have to swallow what they serve up. Nice trick on us chumps.
