SLU FEATURED IN REAL CLEAR RELIGION

“Catholic Courthouse Comedy” is the title of an article in Real Clear Religion in which St. Louis University’s litigation with the Masonic Temple Association over a tax abatement is featured: “. . .as in the case of St. Louis University, (these schools) want to be free of the Church.  But when they want to save money by hiring a lot of adjunct professors and not letting them unionize, they tell the National Labor Relations Board that the schools are steeped in Catholicism.  They suddenly discover their financial interest clashes with their ‘social justice’ and customary secularism.”

If the folks at St. Louis U think things are bad with Father Biondi, just let the thug unions grab the university’s cajones. The university’s image and academics will drop straight to hell. It will be a slow and painful death to an outstanding university.

  • tom cori:

If further evidence is need, look at the union’s effect on public secondary schools in the St Louis area. They are turning into war zones.

  • Rich Krechel:

Obviously the downward spiral of the middle class since the demise of unions has not affected Kitty personally. Unions are what helpled to build the middle class and enable them to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Now most can barely put food on the table or afford health care for their families. At the same time the rich have gotten richer many times over.

Jerry and I were both fortunate to work for a man who was proud that his employees were some of the best paid in the industry and enjoyed excellent benefits while he still was a millionair many times over. Josepn Pulitzer did not believe that he had to keep it all for himself. He knew that his success was largely due to the work of those he employed. We all see what has happened to his company since his death.

Unions are not perfect, but we were all a heck of a lot better off with them. Only the greedy think otherwise.

  • KITTY:

Only union thugs sucking off the company tit think they make the business better. Of course old Joe Pulitzer loved unions. They fit right into his communist beliefs. Unions had their place in society at one time by implementing child labor laws and safer work environments. But in the last 50 yrs they have done nothing but to ruin the economy and send all manufacturing jobs overseas becuase of their endless demands and greed. And if the unions at the Post Dispatch are do damn good, then why have Post employees suffered greatly under the reign of terror of Mary Junk and her sick ilk. Where was Keckhel’s outrage when she was paid $500K bonus for leading the Post into and out of bankruptcy while his pension plan tanked? Take your “greed” speech and shove it, you pathetic hypocrite.

Kitty, I wish you would stop holding back. Just say what you really mean.

I guess you were one of the elite who hired union guys to cut your grass, fix your plumbing, paint your house, drive your limo, build the products in your factories.

Ah, no. You ARE one of those folks who talks and yells and screams and then goes to Walmart to buy all of your food, gifts for your partner (couldn’t possibly be married) so you can support all those Chinese workers who get paid $0.35/hour and have 13 year olds working 60 hours a week. Yea, those are the folks you like to do business with, huh?

  • KITTY:

Anon: I don’t shop at Walmart. I cut my own grass. I NEVER use a union plumber or electrican. And to those poor Chinese who work for 35 cents an hour – that’s 35 cents more per hour than the laid off American workers make and whose jobs were sent overseas because their employers couldn’t afford to pay outrageous union wages and benefits. And when you get in your Lexus and text on your Samsung phone to the repairman whose fixing your Panasonic TV, don’t get your shorts in a knot when you step in dog poop in your new Taiwan made Nikes. Take a picture of it with your Sony Cybershot and sit down to dinner eating Chinese raised chicken from KFC. You, I and everyone else supports slave wages every time we buy these products we are all addicted to. Don’t whine to me for telling the truth. Throw all the sticks and stones at me you want. You can’t keep this KITTY down.

  • RETIRED1:

I hope the workers at the psychiatric hospital that Kitty is a patient at are unionized and receive a decent salary for having to deal with the craziness of Kitty!

  • wwsivo:

The statistics don’t lie: per cent of private US workforce unionized = 6.5%
per cent of public (government workers, teachers, police, fireman etc.) workforce unionized = 34% (2010 US bureau of labor statistics)

  • Comments are more credible when readers post their real names, the way Rich Krechel did. It also helps people be more civil.

  • Anonymous:

Kitty’s never been civil. I think she is a he anyway, either that or she served in the Navy and learned her vocabulary there.

  • Towncar07:

I try and be civil…and it’s hard when faced with some that lack intellectual primacy…yet sometimes I will vent just because it’s the only thing left in a world that is getting weirder by the day, and a Country that has already veered off it’s Constitution…yet [ I ] persevere and in my own way try and contribute thoughtful responses. However, I don’t even try and hide my disgust, distrust, with fear and loathing of our President, his Administration, and his agendas.
