ACE HARDWARE WILL REPLACE CREVE COEUR SCHNUCKS

The time-worn Schnucks, Olive Boulevard at Spoede Road, will be demolished and replaced by an Ace Hardware store and American Cleaners. Schnucks will construct a new outlet, replacing American Cleaners. Currently up the street, next to the present Walgreens. At the Crisis Nursery benefit Scott Schnuck, Dan Deveraux and Philly Flyers’ Chris Pronger toasted Thom Sehnert on his and wife Jane’s son, Liam, 13, who is headed for St. Louis Priory School. Sehnert got a plug in for his Annie Gunn’s, “where we’re now serving Silver Oak wine by the glass.” Nearby, jeweler Diane Katzman paid tribute to her husband, Dr. David Katzman, who turned to concierge medicine seven years ago, charging an annual fee to each patient. “He’s content these days with 10 patients each day,” said Diane. Former Crisis Nursery member Roberta Cohen appeared to face the cameras. After all, her husband, KMOV, Channel 4′s Allan Cohen orders the newsroom to cover her at every event she attends. And, Channel 4′s John Kniceley generously donated his time at the tables. Incidentally, Erica Byfield, one of the nicest reporters on that station’s news team, is ankling the studios. A southern Californian, Byfield has gradually been moving Right Coastward, completing professional stints in Cape Girardeau, here, and now heading to Atlanta. Crisis Nursery’s exec director Diane Mueller offered some bone-chilling facts about parents, who have called the agency for emergency help. She said, “We’ve had parents call that they considered drowning their babies or throwing them against the wall, because they can’t take it anymore. Their children are given physicals and when they leave, social workers are called in to follow up and parents get parenting lessons and stress management.” Mueller said that about 7,000 children each year are served at the five nurseries.

JASMINE HUDA UPDATE

Glammy KMOV, Channel 4 co-anchor Jasmine Huda chowed down at Protzel’s on the deli’s famous Reuben sandwich with her boyfriend, Springfield, Mo. Judge Mark Powell, on her 32nd birthday. Huda also mentioned, her boss, station prez and GM Allan Cohen, has reached the milestone of his 30th year there. . .Tyler Stephens and Michael Byrd‘s architectural firm, CORE-10 is moving to the entire ground floor of the Lindell Terrace Condominium bulding at Taylor Avenue and Lindell Boulevard from Clayton to become the only business tenant in the bulding, where 40 percent of the residents are retired architects. Interesting how CORE-10 made the move. After the owners conducted a survey of clients, asking them what features they would most like to see the firm in new digs – high-rise or ground floor? Clatyon or downtown? – they found the right spot. As for architectural business these days, most of CORE-10 is doing remodeling instead of new construction. Stephens and Byrd said more and more people are opting to remain in their current homes and fix them up to become their “dream home” instead of buying a new one.

RAMS Heat-up St. Louis

A record 200 area volunteers, consisting of firefighters, civic and media celebrities joined Kim Slay, Robin Smith, Michelle and Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson and Mandy Murphey, and Charlie Dooley in hawking dough for energy assistance charity, Heat-Up St. Louis from both Rams and New Orlean Saints fans outside of the Edward Jones Domes, two hours before the game. They raised about $20,000 to help area needy with their heating bills. Allan Cohen, Donna and Dr. James Knight, Melanie DiLeo, Evening Whirl’s editor-in-chief Anthony Sanders and his lovely side-kick Nancy Sides were seen chatting up with the volunteers during a chilly mid-morning…
