ALBERT PUJOLS GOES ON “60 MINUTES”
Barring any late-breaking news or major news development, Cards slugger Albert Pujols‘ profile will air on CBS’ “60 Minutes” this Sunday. That’s the word according to KTRS mid-day man J.C. TONY LaRUSSA’S BOOK-TURNED-MOVIE
When you look at photos of downtown St. Louis on travel folders, you see a city of good feelings, where assorted beliefs and passions exist in delicate balance. No tornado has shattered us, but the city is atilt all the time. If this Grand Duchy of a city ever had an Ambassador who commanded respect wherever he goes, it is Tony LaRussa. The Cardinals manager epitomizes what they call “a good guy”: decent, kindly, sensitive, dedicated and generous with the media. And so it was this week in Jupiter, where he tipped KTRS’ J.C. Corcoran that his book, “Three Nights in August,” may be adapted into a movie. A fictionalized version of the book has been written and Billy Bob Thornton, who has the rights would play longtime pitching coach Dave Duncan. As for who might be cast in the role as the Cardinal skipper, LaRussa joked, “Anybody but Danny DeVito!” His pick is actor Paul Giamatti.
LET’S GO BERGERING
Laurie Mac has been added to J.C. Corcoran‘s 10 a.m.-1 p.m. show on KTRS. J.C. CORCORAN’S QUOTEM
Erstwhile radio personality J.C. Corcoran picked up on the recent story bout conservative commentator Glenn Beck’s apology of having referred to Chi Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher as a neo-Nazi. J.C. said, “Now that Glenn Beck has indicated he might be going blind, it sets up the possibility he’ll team up with Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin for the deaf, dumb and blind tour.”
PEOPLE PATTER
Harry Orchard has a better idea. Having toiled for years in Silicon Valley, Harry and his wife, Betsy, and their three heirs winged it here to roll out what he called “a boon to restaurants and bars.” The software guru has turned out a p.c. for use on tables and bars on which customers can punch in their orders. Harry was on the town with his pop business exec Bob Orchard… A wedding to end all weddings! That would be the merger of Becky Kiphart to our town’s Christopher Capps, son of Deb and John Capps, and it took place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Many family members were flown there for the nupts. Becky’s pop is with the William Blair investment bank in ChiTown… Laurie Westfall has added another notch to her do-good dossier – board member of the Weinman Center for abused women. Her late hub Buzz would be proud. . .Gregg LaBarge, the

Never at a loss for words, J.C. Corcoran posted his thoughts on his dismissal from K-HITS96 radio, based on ratings. He addressed the audience survey system, PPM, which requires individuals to wear electronic devices. He wrote, “if you’re listening to the station and don’t have one, you don’t count. It would be like NBC telling the writers and producers of “The Office” to write jokes and develop storylines about Topeka, Kansas, because the network found out a guy there had a PPM device and they hoped it would make him watch the show. Can you imagine a stand-up comedian being told his job was to make only four, unidentified people laugh in a crowd of 300?? Unbelievably, radio stations are buying into this nonsense”. . . On KMOV, Channel 4′s morning show, “Awake,” Marc Cox has been given stripes as general assignment reporter from his berth as anchor; replaced by John Knicely and the station has hired a new “back-pack reporter,” Maggie Crane. Back-pack in this case means she will carry a cam to shoot, interview and edit.
