ORDAINING FEMALE PRIESTS
The New York Times notes that controversial Catholic priest Fr. Roy Bourgeois, an advocate for ordaining female clerics, will wind up a national speaking tour here in September. Bourgeois will address the Faithful of Southern Illinois on Sept. 25 at the Hilton Regency Conference Center in O’Fallon from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Also speaking will be Sister Jeannine Grammic, who’s been threatened by the Vatican for her ministry to LGBT communities. . .Mo. A.G.Chris Koster’s office will offer a Sunshine Law workshop Sept. 12 in Jeff City. . .County Police Chief Tim Fitch has upped four gendarmes: Charles Boschert to captain; Jeffrey Burke - lieutenant and Craig Molden and Keith Wildhaber to sergeant. . .Mo. MOBAP MED CENTER GARNERS TWO MAJOR AWARDS
Missouri Baptist Medical Center has been ranked as one of the nation’s
100 top hospitals by Thomson Reuters as part of its annual study and it
ranked third best in our town by U.S. News & World Report’s first-ever
best hospitals in or near major cities with a record of high-performance
in key medical specialties. The 489-bed acute-care hospital was
evaluated by Thomson Reuters in 10 areas including: mortality; medical
complications; patient safety; post-discharge mortality and readmission
rates for acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). U.S. News’
evaluation included exceptional skill in handling brain tumors
technically considered inoperable and delicate pancreatic procedures.

JOAN MAGRUDER BECOMES FOLK HEROINE AT MO. BAP. MED. CENTER
Despite a risk of deflation and a weak employment market in the nation, employees at the 500-bed Missouri Baptist Medical Center, on north Ballas Road, are praising the much-admired and emulated president Joan Magruder. She has reached rock star status among them. Within the past two months, employees received salary increases across-the-board. Just a few weeks ago, they also received bonuses in their paychecks. Why? Patient satisfaction has skyrocketed to an all-time score – a public relations dream!
