FORMER WASHINGTON COUNTY CHIEF DEPUTY SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS

Vernon Wilson, former chief deputy of the Washington County Sheriff’s Dept. in Potosi, was sentenced today in U.S. Dist. Court in St. Louis for violating the civil rights of four former inmates at the Washington County Jail on four separate occasions, the Justice Dept. announced today. Wilson was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. . .The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office issued a warrant on Marquis M. Alston, 21, of Pasadena Northwoods, for one count of murder in the second degree and one count of armed criminal action.  He is currently being held on a $250k cash only bond. On July 12, St. Louis County Police detectives responded to the 6600 block of Sacramento Avenue to investigate a homicide.  Upon arrival, they found Christopher McKay who had been shot and he was taken to a hospital where he died. The suspect was a known individual to the victim with whom he had an argument. . .Hometown actor John Goodman has been recruited as the Soulard Oktoberbest 2011′s media personality and he will appear in commercials and promotions to hype the event. . ,Many of our town’s performers and expatriates are in mourning on news of the death of director, dancer and choreographer Tony Stevens. Stevens died of Hodgkins Lymphoma at the age of 63. A one-time student of famed St. Louis dance instructor Michael Simms, Stevens went on to work with celebrity directors/choreographers Gower Champion and Bob Fosse.

Kudos to Geoff Whittington, who has settled in a challenging job at BlockShopper.com, where he conducts computer and reference book research throughout the U.S. He focuses on where notables once lived and writes about them. His byline was recently found in the San Francisco Chronicle real estate section in which he wrote about a house, where the photographer of the Iwo Jima flag raising once lived. . .

Having developed a specialty in communications strategy using social media tools, Allison Collinger has been up and running her AHC Consulting business that has been booming. The former Rams exec is now facing audiences in packed rooms to hear her seminars on the topic and speaking/training engagements in the area. . .

Hometowner Steve Church is tub-thumping his kids television series project, “Safe at Home,” “starring and co-produced by Joe Torre and co-created by myself and John Goodman.” Church, now on the left coast, says Penny Marshall is directing and it is co-developed by Ed Goren, prez of Fox Sports. He added that he and Goodman are partnered with Tony Ponturo‘s Leverage Agency. . .

Another L.A. talent and hometowner, Lara Csengody, has struck success as a comedienne and writer and is fielding countless offers these days for her stand-up routines. . .
