KSDK’S ALERT
A flash flood warning on the electronic crawl (moving message at the bottom of the screen) on Channel 5 Tuesday night read, “remember, turn around and don’t drown.” (Thanks , folks!)
JASMINE HUDA STANDING BY
Former KSDK, Channel 5 news reporter Jasmine Huda, whose contract, with a non-compete clause for six months, has joined KMOV, Channel 4, where she is serving as field producer. Her on-air chores begin on Aug. 1. Good luck to another talented hometowner! Meanwhile, KSDK has just renewed hottie Leisa Zigman’s contract for another three years. “I’m thrilled, that the station still wants this middle aged mom on TV,” said Zigman. “My anchoring duties will increase and I’ll continue in my role as investigative reporter.”
A FLYING NUN AT THE JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER?
The Dow Jones is still above 10,000 (Karl Marx would never have believed a “dove” market), the begonias are in full bloom, Albert Pujols remains our hero, seems like it will be Over There, Steve Shankman has become our Lawrence Welk and people even smile when they are asked to wait for a place to watch the Senior Olympics at the JCC. Joy, despair, hope and sometimes a tragedy happens there as it did the first year Nancy Weigley began as a volunteer at the SO, when a participant expired on the tennis courts. The columnist headed over to the campus of the JCC to ogle the action of some of the 1,400 from 18 states participate in 85 events. Sister Madonna Buder, 79, is flying in from
her base in Spokane, WA., to compete in cycling, swimming, iron man triathlon and running races (she insists she keeps in shape by running to mass). At 96 years-old, swimmer Bill Grant, may be the oldest in the SO. It was recalled that once a person lost his dentures in the pool; a young KSDK, Channel 5 news reporter, who poked fun at the older competitors, lost his trunks in the pool. A glorious event for all as spring melts into summer.
LEISA ZIGMAN vs. ANNE STEFFENS
Since KSDK’s savvy Leisa Zigman’s opus on the Vianney Renewal Center for the treatment of priests, the St. Louis Archdiocese mouthpiece, Anne Steffens, has requested of the station’s news director Mike Shipley to send a different reporter in the future. Steffens said she will no longer work with Zigman. The uber professional Shipley declined Steffens’ request.
Just Sayin’
Did the producers of KSDK’s Just Sayin’ segment broadcast on Thursday night notice that one of the “people on the street” solicited for opinions on health care reform was (reportedly) recently wed St. Louis Comptroller Darlene Green. (If they did, her title was not mentioned.)
DOUBLE-DIGIT RECESSION?
So, it was shave, shower and shoot – the columnist’s new semi-automatic – at Bulls Eye Range on Manchester and then to Il Bel Lago for lunch with financial analyst Juli Niemann, who predicted “We’re looking at double-digit recession – and increasing – by summer or fall.” As for foreclosures? “We’ll see more foreclosures, because of the reset in adjustable mortgages,” she said. Despite the many bank woes, Niemann paid tribute to Commerce Banks, U.S. Banks and United Missouri Banks “because they didn’t do any of that lousy lending,” she pointed out. Niemann got kudos for her 20th anniversary as an analyst in the 12 noon block at KSDK, Channel 5.
