SALUTE

Technisonic production studio’s Mike Stroot took a breather with his sons, Matt, Joe and Nick at Beffa’s after having completed a production for the U.S. Army on sexual harassment .  “We did the work through Summit Marketing and it’s a half-hour production using lots of special effects,” said Stroot, a yesteryear feature reporter on KTVI-TV, Channel 2. Next for the Stroots – an image video for Sigma Aldrich’s use in trade shows and conventions.

BOTTOMS UP

Sean Conroy, affable general assignment reporter at KTVI (Channel 2) is set to bow a second location of his bar, the International Tap House, in the city’s Dogtown nabe.  No word if the original Chesterfield location will alter its singular slogan, 500 Beers, 40 on Tap, 20 countries, 1 Location. . .

Over at Frankie Gabriele‘s Osso Bucco, we learned that Reno Armeni was back in town from eyeballing the shuttered Savor Restaurant and is poised to open an alternative eatery, Queen. Armeni once was the manager of the long-gone Faust’s at the Adam’s Mark Hotel.

UNSIGHTEM

It happened Sunday as KTVI-TV, Channel 2 aired the Phoenix Cardinals-Chicago Bears game played in Chicago. Just after half-time, the station suddenly switched to the Tampa Bay-Green Bay game. A viewer phoned the station and the person on the other end said they’ve gotten many calls. “We have nothing to do about it,” she said. “We were told by New York that the Cardinals-Bears game would be dull and they chose to switch to the other game in progress.” Then, the viewer phoned Fox in NYC and could only get recordings… Has Pinnacle Gaming dropped Mark Levison as legal counsel? That’s the word from sources in Jeff City. (Levison did not return phone calls for a comment.). Contrary to advice offered to then Pinnacle CEO Dan Lee by the company’s chief of government relations that he NOT make any direct contact with local elected officials in St. Louis county, let alone attend the council meeting, Lee was apparently persuaded by Levison to attend and voice his displeasure. The net result, as has been reported, is that the gaming commission is investigating Lee’s interaction with Councilman Steve Stenger and that Lee suddenly announced his “retirement” after seven years with the company. Prior to Lee’s appearance, the company was represented at the zoning hearings by local PR/lobbyist Mack Bradley in an “observe, do not speak” capacity. Bradley strongly advocated that Lee NOT attend or address the council meeting…

Meanwhile, attorney Chet Pleban, who represents St. Louis Police officer Bobby Garrett, is not pleased these days. Garrett was indicted by the federal government for misconduct and entered a plea of guilty to certain charges pursuant to a plea agreement. On Tuesday, Garrett was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison. Pleban noticed that someone posted a comment on the STLtoday.com, suggesting that one of Pleban’s “checks to the judge bounced” and that is why Garrett is going to jail for a couple of years for a lifetime of crime. “I wrote to the editor seeking the identity of a person who made the defamatory comments,” says Pleban. “Although they took the posting down, they would not voluntarily disclose the identity of the poster claiming that it was against the policy to provide identifying information. I was not pleased with the response and am currently exploring potential causes of action against not only the poster, but the newspaper as well.”

senior veep of the CW Television Network (in Los Angeles) Hal Protter was presented “the President’s Award.” At the pre-awards reception, Protter talked about the economic downturn’s effect on television. “The networks are trying to do so much with so few people and they are each down about $100 million in revenue.” A technology expert, Protter noted that he had come up with a $9,000 camera “better than the $80,000 camera.” . Television magnate Ted Koplar, an old Protter boss, got kudos from his pals for his recent media acquisition in Osage Beach., dubbed KRBK-TV (the calls of a former Koplar station in

Sacramento), which will hit the airwaves next month. The station will be an affiliate of Fox’s My Network. Koplar also said that “Voltron,” the successful series he created (and the last iconic brand of the 1980s still standing) is heading toward a future release as a full-length feature film. It will be under the helm of Chuck Roven, whose “The Dark Knight” garnered considerable critical and commercial success . Nancy and Ted’s heir, Robert Koplar, is now with the family’s World Events operation . Honoree Sharon Stevens was a no show, but  her bosses Lynn Beall and Lynn’s hub Paul Trelstad were there in full force.

The Beall-Trelstads were marking 20 years of wedded bliss. The two are both group chiefs of Gannett. With them was Channel 5′s affable news director Mike Shipley . Heidi and Don Wolff enthused that the city’s most prominent litigator still has plenty of irons in the fire, including hosting chores at HEC-TV and “I Love Jazz” on KFUO-FM, and as an expert on the Internet’s “Legally Speaking” . Three-time Emmy winner Laurna Godwin‘s Vector Communications has been tapped (again) to produce the video for the St. Louis Development Corp. City Business Celebration Awards Luncheon on Friday at America’s Center.
