Centrue Bank has sued Golf Discount of St. Louis, Inc., Martin City Golf Complex, Mid Rivers Golf Complex, Story & Associates, Mesa Golf Center and DSL, alleging the companies have defaulted on a $4.550,000 revolving note, which matured on Jan. 5.  “Despite demand for payment of indebtedness being made, borrowers have failed, neglected and refused to make payment,” the petition reads. Centrue is also seeking judgement on a term note of $7,284,089, interest and attorneys’ fees as provided by law. . .

Founded here and headquartered in Chicago, blockshopper.com is now serving 31 major metropolitan areas.  The company, founded by Brian Timpone and Eddie Weinhaus, has just reached an agreement with the San Francisco Chronicle to manage production of its Sunday real estate section.  The firm offers informational news stories on notable people in a format similiar to news stories. . .

Hometowner Gerald Greenwald “is now selling diesels to China,” said his sis, Suzanne Greenwald, who is an actress.  She’s starring in First Run Theatre’s “And it Shall be Forgiven,” by local author Jason Slavik. Performances at DeSmet Jesuit High are Jan. 17 and 23 and matinees Sundays Jan. 17 and 24 at 2.  Gerald, btw, the yesteryear chief of Chrysler Corp. and UAL, is a founding principal of Greenbriar Equity Group. . .

Iconic businessman Lester Miller just may be on the prowl for another destination dinery, Lester’s.  He has bought two neighboring buildings on the south side of the 11000 block of Olive Blvd. in Creve Coeur.  Said Mayor Harold Dielmann, “I suggested to Miller, that the location would be ideal for another Lester’s and he thought it would be perfect and might do it”.

Harry Orchard has a better idea.  Having toiled for years in Silicon Valley, Harry and his wife, Betsy, and their three heirs winged it here to roll out what he called “a boon to restaurants and bars.”  The software guru has turned out a p.c. for use on tables and bars on which customers can punch in their orders. Harry was on the town with his pop business exec Bob Orchard… A wedding to end all weddings!  That would be the merger of Becky Kiphart to our town’s Christopher Capps, son of Deb and John Capps, and it took place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Many family members were flown there for the nupts. Becky’s pop is with the William Blair investment bank in ChiTown… Laurie Westfall has added another notch to her do-good dossier – board member of the Weinman Center for abused women.  Her late hub Buzz would be proud. . .Gregg LaBarge, the

Over at the St. Louis County guv center COO in the office of the county exec, Gary Earls, has a wish-list for Jamestown Mall.  “It needs destination retailers like Bass Pro and Ikea,” he said. . . Never at a loss for words, J.C. Corcoran posted his thoughts on his dismissal from K-HITS96 radio, based on ratings.  He addressed the audience survey system, PPM, which requires individuals to wear electronic devices.  He wrote, “if you’re listening to the station and don’t have one, you don’t count. It would be like NBC telling the writers and producers of “The Office” to write jokes and develop storylines about Topeka, Kansas, because the network found out a guy there had a PPM device and they hoped it would make him watch the show. Can you imagine a stand-up comedian being told his job was to make only four, unidentified people laugh in a crowd of 300??  Unbelievably, radio stations are buying into this nonsense”. . . On KMOV, Channel 4′s morning show, “Awake,” Marc Cox has been given stripes as general assignment reporter from his berth as anchor; replaced by John Knicely and the station has hired a new “back-pack reporter,” Maggie Crane. Back-pack in this case means she will carry a cam to shoot, interview and edit.

PUNCHLINE

If there were a Michelin Guide for our town, it would have to award three stars (“Worth a special journey”) to Lester’s on Clayton Road, where priceless exhibits of sports items are housed in a space that is itself a work of art.  That’s where I overheard this classic line, “For every deli diner, who orders mayonnaise on a pastrami sandwich, a Jewish person dies.”

At the hot spot, Lester’s, Martha and Vince Bommarito confided to boniface Lester Miller t’other day, that their Tony’s Restaurant’s customers are ordering 40 percent seafood. It was eatery day at Lester’s. Nearby were Chris Dorr, bosssman of Paddy O’s, and at another table, Mary and Al Baker of yesteryore’s Al Baker’s… Look for Leon Birnbaum, who has sold his CWE Chez Leon, to move his talents to the 7900 block of Forsyth in Clayton. . .The recession has hit at the 84 year-old Sam Light Loans (and pawn shop), on Jefferson at
