“AB iNBEV IS PISSED OFF AT MAYOR SLAY”
At Tuesday night’s Cardinals/Bank of America salute to the 2011 National League World Series, a brewery source divulged that AB iNBEV “is pissed off at Mayor Francis Slay for his friendly wager of Schlafly Beer over AB products with Arlington, TX Mayor Robert Chuck.” However, Slay’s chief of staff Jeff Rainford said, “It will be fixed.” Furthermore, the brewery source said the matter “has gone all the way up to top officials and some of them are vowing to withdraw all support of the city.” Rainford, with his daughter, Claire, a soph at Nerinx Hall, jammered with Husch Blackwell partner and real estate guru Gregory Smith. outgoing chief Dick Fleming said when he steps down in December, he will turn to “the philanthropic sector.” His and wife, Sarah’s, heiress, Caitlin, is an intern at the White House. U.S. Banks’ Joe Imbs introed Nancy Schnoebelen, “My significant other for three years,” he cooed. A trio of U.S. Marine recruiters got an earful about our town from Caseyville, Illinois’ Sgt. At Sunday’s Urban League Guild Jazz Brunch, St. Louis Ald. Marlene Davis was hyped over new developments in her ward:
- 25 new Habit for Humanity houses
- Robbie Montgomery‘s launch of Sweetie Pie’s Upper Crust restaurant on Grand at Delmar Boulevards
- a boutique hotel on the triangle of Lindell Boulevard at Olive Street, being designed by Steve Smith of the Lawrence Group
- the forthcoming facility at Locust and Theresa Streets, that will house a Ducati facility,where consumers may purchase the high-performance, stylish motorcycles. Davis said there are only a few outlets in the U.S. The firm was founded in Bologna, Italy, in 1926.
HAIL TO THE POP
The re-christening of the once Arsenal/Ellendale Park – now, the Francis R. Slay Park – took place over the weekend with a crowd of hundreds looking on. For about 40 years, area residents used the park, at the corner of Arsenal street and McCausland avenue to play soccer and softball. The bill, for the conversion, was signed Saturday by Mayor Francis Slay, who said to his dad, “You know, Pa, while the park is in your name, you can’t try to run it or even sell it.” Elder Slay shot back, “Well, what’s the use of having it?” State Rep. Michelle Kratky presented Slay, Sr., with a state resolution for his outstanding contributions to the region. Also on display were the architectural drawings showing eventual improvements, that will include footpaths, a baseball field with a dugout, a water garden and a gazebo. The older Slay, who will turn 82 later this year, retired after 40 years ih public service as committeeman, Mo. state rep, recorder of deeds and later became a businessman. On hand for the doin’s were: aldermanic prez Lewis Reed; Ald, Steve Gregali -14th Ward, ald. Craig Schmid -20th ward, akd, Marlene Davis -19th ward and Jennifer Florida.
