The most-watched program in television history took place with Sunday’s Super Bowl, pitting the winning New York Giants against the New England Patriots which attracted 111.3 million viewers. Only the finale of M*A*S*H decades ago on CBS outnumbered Sunday night’s and three other Super Bowl telecasts. Of the commercials, five have been chosen as winners by Adweek including Honda’s “Matthew’s Day Off” and Chrysler’s “It’s Halftime in America.”
All commercials in the Feb. 5 airing of Super Bowl XLVI on NBC were sold out by Thanksgiving. For $3.5 million each, advertisers will have a 30-second spot in the top trophy of sports. Dannon will be the first ever yogurt advertiser and Volkswagen will peddle its Beetle during a 60-second spot.
