TINA TURNER TO GIVE UP U.S. PASSPORT

Tina Turner

Tina Turner

Singing icon Tina Turner is poised to surrender her U.S. passport to gain Swiss  citizenship, where she has been living since 1995.  She has already passed the civics test and calls Kuesnacht (a ‘burb of Zurich) home.  Turner hit the mainstream after Ike Turner invited her in the1950s to join his band.  She first met him at the Manhattan Club in East St. Louis.  Then came a long run at the late George Edick’s Club Imperial at Goodfellow and West Florissant Avenue.  Who was the Club Imperial’s bouncer in those days?  None other than a young Tom Dunne, retired chief of Fred Weber, Inc., who spent many long hours with Ike and Tina.

Another producer takes a hat. I think you are going to start seeing more of this as the takers demand more and more taxes. Someday, the takers are going to wake up and realize people will lose their ambition when taxes eat up more than half of their incomes. She has always been a hard worker. From the days when I used to see her for a dollar over in ESTL, to the days when she commanded top dollar and filled arenas.

Ike and Tina and the Ikettes used to rock Club Imperial when they’d come back once a year. You couldn’t get one more person in there when they played. Club Imperial was on the second floor. There was no room to dance, we were arm to arm keeping the beat so much so that the floor used to go up and down with the beat. Short little Tommy Galico and his long white T shirt (down to his knees) was one of the best dancers there – got to dance with all the cool chicks. What great memories of that place and Ike and Tina and the Ikettes. WOW.
