Before the documentary film, “Deadline in Disaster,” unreeled Thursday night at the Plaza-Frontenac cinema, got a few tips of lessons learned during a disaster much like the EF-5 tornado that devastated the Joplin community. (The documentary is about the operations of the Joplin Globe staff covering the tornado and more.)
> Prepare a list of medications and dosages so they may be replaced
> Get renter’s insurance
> Have a fireproof box for storing documents and cash
> Stock up on nonperishable food items
> Take digital photos of damage and file insurance claim as quickly as you can
