WHERE DID ALL THE JOBS GO?

The Monsanto complex on Olive Street Road is being emptied out as we speak. Preparing for Bare essentials.

  • Eagle says:

In a January St. Louis Business Report Bayer committed to $8 billion in new U.S. research and development. Bayer also indicated that after the deal closes it would keep 100 percent of Monsanto’s 9,000 plus U.S. workforce, and add 3,000 new U.S. high-tech jobs.

  • Jeffrey Link says:

Kinda like when AA bought TWA and promised it would make St. Louis a “hub,” with more than 250 flights a day — and got all kinds of tax breaks. You can see how that turned out for St. Louis….which when TWA controlled 80% of the gates, made Lambert a truly “International” and busy airport – even for connections. Now how many AA flights are there daily — a few dozen or less?
    Companies lie.

  • TOWNCAR says:

Both Eagle and Jeffrey are right. However, my Monsanto stock has doubled and I have been flying private since 2012.

Bayer may have ancillary plans that would require re-hires at lower wages, and Southwest (LUV) now has the lock on Lambert.

I wish everyone the best outcome.

  • Jean Valjean says:

Proving yet again that, even if they say their pending merger or acquisition — sing along with me now — will “lower prices, improve service, and increase hiring”, Corporate America truly actually has only this end game in mind: To benefit their own execs and stockholders. The employees and consumers who take the brunt of their lies and machinations are nothing more than collateral damage as Wall Street continues to laugh at the rubes on Main Street.

  • TOWNCAR says:

    …yeah,sure, whatever…Econ 101…money always finds it’s highest return.

  • TOWNCAR says:

I would change “finds” to “seeks” to be more Milton Friedman-ish about it.

  • TOWNCAR says:

I guess my question is…WHERE did Mr. Berger GO ?? MIA since 3/1…perchance a sabbatical in Miami ?

  • Eagle says:

According to Jerry’s bio, he’s 83 years old so it’s possible ill health has tripped him up. I tried sending him an email but the contact function on this blog isn’t working. I also sent the website management co. an inquiry but haven’t heard back. While TC’s guess that maybe Jerry’s on a vacation, I think he would have posted it. I don’t have a personal email for either Jerry or his sister but maybe someone who does can find out if Jerry’s ok.

  • Cowboy22 says:

    a little worried here, too.

  • m says:

Also concerned about his absence – always look forward to his comments on local A-List folks. There should have been some gooders on J. Bommarito’s fracas at Eat-Rite diner. Does this make a rating on food at Tony’s if family member goes to a late nite diner? OK – so nothing else is open downtown after Tony’s closes. Thought James was their accountant.

  • KITTY says:

Haven’t heard from the Bergermeister either, but he has a condo in Florida. I called his cell number but it went to voice mail. I left a message saying how much The Berger’s Beaters miss him and how concerned they are about his well being. Last I heard about ten days ago was that he was at Mara a Lago chillin’ with The Trumps.

  • KITTY says:

Okay, folks, here’s the poop. Jerry was a patient at Mo Bap and was discharged last week. No other info available at this time.

  • TOWNCAR says:

Kitty is on it…I would think that Mr. Berger could at least type his current thoughts on a keyboard and post same and putting [us] all at ease (or concern)

Until more facts emerge, I join the others in standing by for that which develops.

  • TOWNCAR says:

I DO HOPE THAT THERE IS AN EXPLANATION OF THE STATUS OF THIS SITE BY APRIL 2ND…AFTER THAT TIME, I’M GOING TO ESCUSE MYSELF AND MOVE ON TO OTHER AREAS.

UNTIL THEN I STAND BY AND PRAY MR BERGER OR HIS WEBMASTER HAS SOME FURTHER NEWS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THIS WEBSITE. OBVIOUSLY THINGS HAVE CHANGED, AND LACK OF INFO CAN ONLY MEAN UNCERTAINTY.

PERHAPS [WE] MIGHT CONSIDER AN INFORMAL LUNCH SOMEWHERE WHERE WE CAN EXPLAIN OUR DIFFERENCES AND APPLAUD OUR LIKENESSES. OR, HOST THE CITY’S LOUDEST FOOD FIGHT.

  • Cowboy22 says:

Well then April 2nd can’t get here fast enough.

  • TOWNCAR says:

Ride ’em Cowboy…may your saddles “BLAZE” Thanks to Mel Brooks for that one.

  • Jon Wayne says:

  • TOWNCAR says:

^^^the reports of Mr. Berger’s demise has now been greatly exaggerated…normalcy in the sense of this site will return to normal velocity with insanity.

  • Mickey says:

  • Big dick says:
